Michael is a Partner of Waimana Capital with a passion for Sustainability. He is a member of Waimana Capital’s Leadership Team and has more than 30 years of environmental management and business sustainability experience working across corporate, SME, local and central government sectors.
During that time, Michael has been a contributing member of significant business sustainability and environmental networks and many conferences and project groups.
Michael’s experience has been built on a foundation of environmental auditing and impact management, education/training and public engagement around environmental and sustainability issues in New Zealand and overseas. Subsequently he joined a progressive operational business sustainability unit within the Ministry for the Environment where he worked connecting business/sectors to facilitate initiatives aimed at increasing the success and sustainability of ‘NZ Inc’.
Michael then joined an large infrastructure business as National Sustainability Manager to lead the development and evolution of their sustainability programme from inception to engagement of their board and senior executives.
Michael currently provides sustainability advice, strategy and leadership across a range of sectors. He is also demonstrating his ‘walking of the talk’ through owning and executive management of two successful Auckland accommodation businesses.
Michael’s belief is that 'Sustainability' not only references environmental management, or ‘doing less harm’, it is the potential for business to genuinely engage with their staff and clients (and the communities they serve) to produce innovative, enduring and more satisfying/ethical results. He is passionate about the value that truly sustainable practice can add and loves helping businesses to do well, through doing good.
